  • About this holiday

A four-star hotel in Modena, the Rechigi Park Hotel offers excellent access to restaurants serving the distinctive local cuisine, to artistic monuments such as the Ducal Palace and Romanic Cathedral, as well as to the iconic motor museums in the area, including Ferrari, Maserati, and modern Pagani. We would highly recommend combining a stay of a few nights here with stays in Tuscany, Rome, and Piemonte, as part of a longer multi-centre touring holiday around Italy.

    Our opinion

This is a supremely comfortable four-star hotel set just minutes away from some of Italy’s most important and relevant heritage.

    Hotel description

Just outside the city of Modena in the heart of Emilia-Romagna, Italy, the Rechigi Park Hotel is a four-star option perfect for stops of a few nights as you explore this lesser-known region. As you approach, the classic Italian style of the building, preserved since its 19th-century beginnings, becomes apparent in the arched windows, symmetrical square façade, and pale lemon hue. The sense of tradition is continued inside. Marbled floors, mottled walls, dark leather sofas, and ornate vases characterise the lobby, which is a very elegant and comfortable introduction to the hotel’s style. The guestrooms have a real sense of cosiness, though they have been more recently renovated. Polished wooden floors are topped with textured rugs to match the soft bed throws. Classical artwork adorns the walls and rich draped curtains frame the views out onto the city streets. Suites are available for those seeking a little more luxury and space, and are very comfortable for slightly longer stays. High ceilings complete the elegant and opulent feel. In the evenings, enjoy a relaxed drink in the hotel bar, which has more of a bright, modern, Mediterranean style, due to its signature yellow armchairs and the sleek simplicity of the bar itself. The breakfast room serves a vast and varied spread between 7 and 10am during the week and slightly later on a Sunday. Here, you can pick up sweet and savoury dishes to help you begin your day of cultural exploration in Modena. In the evenings, you can book a table at the hotel restaurant and enjoy traditional Modena cuisine on the veranda. With the heart of the city just a short distance away, the Rechigi Park Hotel is a convenient and comfortable hotel perfect for a few days of cultural exploration and excursions in Modena and Emilia-Romagna.

    Out and aboutnearby/local interest

Modena is often recognised for being the centre of Italian automobile innovation because of the abundance of prestigious car factories and museums that are located in and around the city. In Modena, you can see the original location of a 1930s Ferrari workshop, a former Maserati factory, a monument dedicated to Enzo Ferrari, and the Museum Casa Natale Enzo Ferrari. There are also two private museums, Stanguellini and Panini that are worth visiting. Continue on to Maranello, home of the Ferrari, to visit the Maranello Ferrari Museum. Aside from the automobile history, there is plenty of artistic history to appreciate. The Ducal Palace dominates the part of Modena that was built by the Este family, kept separate from the city’s mediaeval quarter by a Roman road. In this quarter stands the Romanic Cathedral, surrounded by arcaded mediaeval houses, Romanesque churches, and museums. The Estense Library contains an important collection of books and figures. Head outside the city to witness the awe-inspiring castles that dot the landscape, lining the so-called Strada dei Castelli. Spilamberto and Vignola are the best places to see these, though Castelvetro and Savignano have their own mediaeval charm. A few kilometres away sits the Nonantola Abbey, one of the most beautiful Romanesque churches in the region. For stunning natural landscapes, take an active excursion into the Sassi di Roccamalatina Park, known for its sandstone formations, or to the Salse di Nirano Nature Reserve, with its mud volcanoes.
