    Our opinion

The San Clemente Palace Kempinski is a phenomenal five-star hotel with a genuine historic atmosphere, combined with a stunning location and excellent facilities.

    Hotel description

On the exclusive San Clemente Island in Venice, the five-star San Clemente Palace Kempinski is immersed in the beauty of the Venetian lagoons, soaked in the lavish history of the Veneto. The hotel itself is set within a former monastery, with a 12th century church and historic courtyards in the grounds. A complimentary shuttle boat takes you direct from the hotel to the Piazza San Marco and the iconic, romantic sights of Venice. The hotel exterior is every bit as grand and majestic as you would expect from a Venetian palace, with rows upon rows of white stone arched windows surrounded by walls of a soft brown hue. The oak front door is topped with a wrought iron-framed window, and is approached via a long pathway, lined with thick greenery and elaborate potted red flowers. From each room, a different view across the ancient spires, opulent palaces, and narrow canal ways of Venice is possible. Their interior designs are simple, but elegant, with a focus on high ceilings, crisp, clean white bed covers, and gold ornate bed posts and mirror frames. There is a very serene feel, which perhaps mimics the gentle ebb of the water outside the windows. Character is brought into each with the unique choices of antique-style furniture and wall art. Draping curtains are held back by woven ties. The huge range of room types ensures that there is a luxury option available for every individual guest and parties of all sizes. The suites are, almost without exception, completely unique, with different furnishings, design styles, and space arrangements in each. Higher category rooms have terrazzo floors, walk-in closets, and multiple bedrooms and bathrooms. Three restaurants, Insieme, Acquerello, and La Dolce, serve immersive cuisine, from ultra-modern Venetian creations to rich, indulgent, classic Italian dishes. The style of the food is heavily reflected in the style of the dining venues. At Acquerello, you are seated at white-clothed tables beside a private pier and the churchyard. At La Dolce, dine on antipasti in the summer, as well as seasonal food from the wood-fired oven, deep in the century-old park. At breakfast, enjoy Mediterranean dishes at Insieme, beside ancient tapestries or on the 15th century monastery courtyard. The three bars offer you a selection of contemporary, chic cocktails, sorbet in the courtyard, or relaxed drinks and snacks on the sofas overlooking the lagoon. Across the grounds, guests can hide away from the gentle bustle of the tourist spots of Venice on the tennis court, around the golf course, or in the heated outdoor pool. The grounds are as well-equipped and beautiful as those of a much larger, more rural resort, but with the immeasurable benefits of lagoon views and a central city location. Complete your stay at the San Clemente Palace Kempinski with a visit to the Merchant of Venice Spa. Here, exclusive Merchant of Venice products are used in a range of traditional, European spa treatments, from aromatherapy to beauty treatments.

    Out and aboutnearby/local interest

The attractions of Venice are known across Europe, from the romantic gondola rides down the Grand Canal to the historic buildings on the Piazza San Marco. The atmosphere and the depth of history is wholly unique, topped off by the captivating maze of waterways that both draw the city together and keep it apart. The most popular sights in Venice include the Doge’s Palace, the Bridge of Sighs, the Grand Canal, the Accademia, and the Rialto Bridge, though a self-guided tour around the city will uncover many more secrets of history and architecture. Short stays over the time of the Venice Carnavale, rich in costumed parades, music, and elaborate parties, are always popular, though many prefer to visit in the cooler, quieter seasons for a little more exclusivity.

    Sports nearby

The Kempi Kids’ Club is complete with indoor playroom and outdoor park. There are facilities for watching films and playing more organised games, including Venetian mask-making, badminton, treasure hunts, and hide and seek. The club welcomes children aged 4 to 11 years from 11am to 5pm. The service comes at an added cost. Babysitting is also available on request. Extra beds can be added to all rooms except Superior Room and Superior Lagoon Rooms. Children under the age of 6 stay free when sharing a room with their parents. Baby cots are free of charge for children up to 3 years.
