    Our opinion

Relais San Maurizio effortlessly combines the luxury of a 5 star boutique hotel with a host of authentic local experiences.

    Hotel description

Set in a little village in Langhe near Alba, Relais San Maurizio, a former 17th Century monastery, perches majestically on a hilltop surrounded by lush verdent grounds rich in Mediterranean flora and fauna. Whilst maintaining the peaceful and reflective serenity of the Franciscan monks who once lived there, the 31 beautifully appointed rooms and suites, La Via del Sale Spa and Michelin-starred restaurant will ensure that your stay will be as luxurious and relaxing as it is quintessentially Piedmontese. The hotel is perfect for 'foodies', and a popular activity is truffle hunting in the countryside followed by a cookery lesson in the Michelin-starred restaurant, Guido da Costigliole, which has been the undisputed benchmark for fine dining in the region for 50 years. The hotel also boasts a huge wine cellar with more than 1,200 labels to sample. La Via del Sale Medical and Beauty Spa treatments are based around the highly beneficial properties of salt. The Grotta del Sale is home to the salt baths where highly saline water is ideal for hydrotherapy. The region is also popular for more sporting activities such as horse riding holidays amidst the vineyards and the open countryside, and the opportunity to play golf on one of the two 18 hole golf courses situated nearby to the hotel. The San Maurizio, being located in an area of outstanding natural beauty which produces a prolific amount of fine ingredients, makes the very best of what the land has to offer. From wine tasting and salt spa therapies to cooking with the very same truffles you helped uncover earlier that day, the San Maurizio effortlessly combines the luxury of a 5 star boutique hotel with a host of authentic local experiences, both the traditional and the contemporary.

    La Via del Sale Spa

Dedicated to the wellness of body and soul. the medical and beauty spa “La Via del Sale”, with its saltwater baths and its former salt cave, skilfully combines avant-garde medical knowledge with water and salt-based treatments.

The Monastery of San Maurizio is located along one of the five ancient Vie del Sale or Salt Roads that carried precious salt from the Ligurian Sea to beyond the Alps. With all its oligoelements, salt has always been essential to health treatments. Salt, the heart of our spa, plays a starring role in the Grotta where the highly dense, saline water is ideal for hydrotherapy. Here, exclusive therapies and beauty treatments are offered in perfect symbiosis with the innovative medical centre specialized in wellness.

The Grotta del Sale is a natural gorge dug into the rock where salt baths have been created. The combination of the highly mineralized water of the San Maurizio monks and the salt arriving from the Cagliari saltworks in Sardinia has produced highly saline water able to eliminate toxins and ensure lymphodrainage. The Grotta del Sale offers an exclusive regenerating, health circuit. Besides the two salt baths, the Scuola delle Gambe (Legs School) offers specific treatments geared to cardiovascular wellness.

    Signature Treatments

Bio Pure Perfection: This facial treatment is very effective in purifiying and restoring vitality for skin in need of rebalancing. It brightens the skin and leaves it soft, reducing any inflammation.

Salt Smoothing Treatment: Ideal to regenerate skin tissues and overcome the effects of dryness, this is a moment of pure relaxation thanks to a slow and accurate massage made with a mixture of soothing oils in synergy with the exclusive "rubbing sea salt". This is an ideal first treatment as your skin will be left wonderfully smooth and ready for any other follow-up beauty treatments

Water Massage in the Grotte de Sale: This is a unique treatment created from the experience of the TdM School and performed in the "Grotta del Sale" with high density saline mountain water. To counteract stress, insomnia and muscle fatigue, this extraordinary pressure technique gives a soothing, invigorating and relaxing effect to both mind and body.
