Our opinion
The Hotel Glockenhof is a modern Swiss hotel ideally situated in the centre of Zurich.
Hotel description
A sophisticated four star hotel in Zurich, Hotel Glockenhof offers a high standard of luxury in the centre of this famous Swiss city. From the outside, the Glockenhof has a very traditionally Swiss appearance, with pale walls, wrought iron balconies below the windows, and an overhanging tiled roof. On street level, the tables of the Glogge Egge restaurant spill out onto the pavement. Trees, flowers, and stone ornamentation remove the hotel from its urban location, creating a more rural effect. The rooms and suites are decorated with a refined cosmopolitan feel in mind. Neutral coloured walls, floors, and bedsheets are offset against signature coloured fabrics and cushions, while unique leather furnishings, flowers in vases, and modern light fittings suggest a keen attention to detail. En-suite walls are clad with Valser Quartzite and larch wood fixtures, and the floors of some of the rooms are crafted from local oak. The Essential Switzerland room types in particular are very typically Swiss in design, and demonstrate the quality of the locally sourced wood. Two dining options are available to guests. Glogge Egge is a classic bistro in design, but has a charming canopied garden and becomes a relaxing bar in the evenings. Restaurant Conrad pairs ultra-modern gastronomy with the hotel’s key concept of ‘Swissness.’ All produce is ecologically produced and sourced as locally as possible. Hotel guests can enjoy the convenient luxury of the Holmes Place Spa and Fitness Centre, which offers rooftop workout spots, a sauna, an indoor pool, and much more. Facilities at this hotel embody its main priority – the comfort of its guests – from the stylish rooms to the excellent culinary options and the indulgent spa. Stay at Hotel Glockenhof while you enjoy the cultural attractions of Zurich, before moving on, by rail, to another Swiss or Austrian hotel.

Out and aboutnearby/local interest
The Glockenhof is very close to the famous Zurcher Bahnhofstrasse, the city’s main shopping street. Begin your historic tour of Zurich with the Grossmunster Cathedral, which dates back to the 12th century, before moving on to the 11th century Fraumunster Church, with its Chagall windows, and the Swiss National Museum. The Schloss Kyburg Museum is situated just outside the city in a white-washed rustic chateau-esque building. Take a self-guided tour of the old town to appreciate the city’s Roman origins. Historic squares and quaint architecture characterise this part of town, and most professional tours will take you past the Cabaret Voltaire, birthplace of Dadaism. Trek up over forested hills to the Uetliberg vantage point, which gives you the best views across the city and lake. The Kunsthaus Zurich displays a vast collection of major European artwork. More modern Zurich can be seen in the architecture of the Freitag Tower and the Europaallee. The small town of Baden makes for a satisfying excursion outside the city, characterised as it is by colourful houses and pretty streets.
Sports nearby
Lake Zurich is the ideal place to partake in water sports such as sailing and wakeboarding. Alternatively, use the hilly surrounding landscape for long, peaceful walks.
