With soaring mountains and swaying rice fields, sweeping beaches and the mighty Mekong, buzzing cities and timeless villages, Vietnam has it all. There is so much to see – both urban and rural – that a touring holiday is an excellent way to make the most out of your stay. However, tours are perhaps better suited to families with older children due to the distances travelled. Our preferred recommendation for families is a dual-centre holiday, which can allow insight into the development and culture of Vietnam's fascinating cities, whilst providing for beachside relaxation at the end of your holiday too.
SUGGESTED HOLIDAYTravel from city to coast and witness the contrast from the hustle and bustle of urban life and the laid back atmosphere and scenic beauty of your own beachside paradise. Spend two nights experiencing the hubbub of Ho Chi Minh City before travelling to the beach paradise of either Nha Trang or Phu Quoc where parents can unwind and children can live out their active desires. Days one and two of this suggested holiday stay the same, with a choice between Nha Trang(Option A) and Phu Quoc Island (Option B) for the remaining 10 days, depending on which beach destination you would like to visit. DAY BY DAY ITINERARYDay one: Arrive Ho Chi Minh City Upon arrival at Tan Son Nhat airport in Ho Chi Minh City, be greeted by your chauffeur who will drive you to your hotel for a welcome dinner. Enjoy an evening performance of traditional water puppetry, which will serve as a light-hearted introduction to the national culture.Day two: Ho Chi Minh City Enjoy a guided city tour where you will visit the History Museum, with its exhibition of 5th century artefacts from the ancient ‘Oc Eo’ civilisation, and The Museum of War Remnants, where the history of the American War is vividly spelled out. Pause for lunch during the day before continuing your exploration. Visit Binh Tay Market and China Town, witness the beauty and tranquillity of the Taoist Jade Emperor Temple and spend your second night in Ho Chi Minh City. You could opt to return to your hotel to freshen up or spend the evening wandering around the bustling Ben Thanh Market, which is one of the liveliest areas of Ho Chi Minh City. OPTION ADay three: Ho Chi Minh City to Nha TrangSpend the morning at leisure before flying to Nha Trang, where you will be greeted and transported to your hotel, Vinpearl Luxury Resort.Days four to eleven: Nha Trang Spend the next eight days exploring Nha Trang from your beachside base. Vinpearl Luxury Resort is located on the much quieter Hon Tre Island, which is under 10 minutes from Nha Trang on a luxury yacht. With coastal villas as well as golfing and sporting facilities, this is where families can relax and bond surrounded by nature. The beach is pristine and there is a vast swimming pool. Use the hotel's water taxi service to hop over to Nha Trang to explore its sights or merely bask in the solitude of the island.Day twelve: Nha Trang to Ho Chi Minh City Spend the morning at leisure in Nha Trang before being transported to the airport. Your flight to Ho Chi Minh City arrives in good time to meet your international departure flight.OPTION BDay three: Ho Chi Minh City to Phu Quoc IslandAfter breakfast, depart for Phu Quoc Island, which is located off the south west tip of Vietnam in the Gulf of Thailand. The journey should take around 40 minutes by air. At the airport you will be met and driven to your hotel, La Veranda.Days four to eleven: Phu Quoc Island Spend your time at leisure at La Veranda, which is a boutique property that boasts a charming, 19th century colonial style. On a peaceful beach and within beautiful grounds, families can enjoy tranquil days and participate in adventurous water sports activities. From this base, explore Vietnam’s largest island, whose coastline is littered with myriad beaches to be discovered. A recently discovered destination, the area has shown much development but retains a rough-around-the-edges feel, with rough tracks and secluded spots. The main town is called Duang Dang, where there are plenty of restaurants to choose from for your evening meals. Diving and snorkelling are available to families looking for adventure pursuits, whilst hiking and cycling allow you to get to know the local scenery. Day twelve: Phu Quoc Island to Ho Chi Minh CitySpend the morning at leisure before your private car transports you to the airport for an afternoon flight to Ho Chi Minh City, arriving in good time to catch your international departure.PRICESVinpearl Luxury Resort, Nha Trang (Option A): Prices from £9650 for 2 adults and 2 children under 12 sharing two rooms or a Family SuiteLa Veranda, Phu Quoc Island (Option B): Prices from £8780 for 2 adults and 2 children under 12 sharing two rooms or a Family SuitePrice includes:• Return scheduled flights with Vietnam Airlines to Ho Chi Minh City in economy class• Internal flights Ho Chi MInh City to Nha Trang or Phu Quoc• 11 nights' bed and breakfast sharing two rooms or a Family Suite• Pick-ups and transfers by private air conditioned vehicle with a guide and/or driverNot included:• Visas• Lunches and dinners except as specified above • Drinks, gratuities and personal expenses• Camera fees where applicable• Insurance
