Explore Brittany from the unique and piquant Domaine de Locguénolé!
As we prepare for the advent of 2025, we are thrilled to offer you the chance to stay at a new addition to our French hotels in Brittany - the Domaine de Locguénolé! When our clients think of château holidays, they tend to imagine the Loire Valley or the winding Dordogne. However, Brittany has its own share of medieval and Renaissance treasures many of which are members of the esteemed Relais and Châteaux network.
The construction of a château on the Locguénolé site began in the early 1800s, becoming the primary residence of the De Perrien family and later their descendants, the De la Sablière family. In the 1960s, the estate transitioned into a hotel and soon after joined the prestigious Relais & Châteaux association, where it has remained a member ever since.
Today, the Domaine de Locguénolé spans a magnificent 25-hectare estate of parkland and woods along the Blavet estuary. Situated just a few miles from the southern coast of Brittany’s Morbihan region, the property is ideally located for exploring nearby attractions such as the Quiberon peninsula and the seaside resort of Carnac.
The estate’s parkland is a highlight, featuring avenues lined with centuries-old trees, landscaped gardens with vibrant shrubs, an orchard with around 20 varieties of cider apples, and a vegetable garden complete with a greenhouse. Beehives on the property produce honey that is served at breakfast and incorporated into the kitchen’s creations. Guests can also enjoy an outdoor swimming pool with a sun terrace and an artificial grass tennis court. Additionally, the private pontoon on the Blavet estuary offers opportunities for boat excursions.
And as for the stylish interior...
Indoors, the château boasts elegant yet welcoming spaces. The gourmet restaurant, L’Inattendu, is located in one of the château’s wings beneath a glass roof. Chef Yann Maget crafts inventive cuisine inspired by the Breton ocean and terroir, offering both set menus and à la carte options. For a more relaxed dining experience, La Maison Alyette, the château’s bistro, is located on the garden level. It features a panoramic terrace overlooking the gardens and estuary and serves French-inspired dishes with a choice of set menus or à la carte.
The hotel offers 46 rooms and suites across the main château, the manor-house, the orangerie, and the converted stables known as Le Club. Room categories vary, with options including park or sea views, cozy doubles, and spacious suites suitable for families. The interiors combine traditional château charm with contemporary comfort, often reflecting the colors and influences of the French East India Company, which had a base nearby in Lorient.
For a unique stay, Locguénolé features three distinctive accommodations. The Cuckoo Suite, once a henhouse, includes a living area, a master bedroom, and a second bedroom with bunk beds. This is an excellent option for families wanting to subtle but distinctive luxury.
The Bateau-Suite Le Caprice, a converted sailing ship, offers a master suite and a cabin for up to three children. Lastly, the Villa Belem, resembling a Portuguese chapel, includes three bedrooms and exudes charm.
