Luxury bespoke hotel holidays to the Hotel Engo Gard, Tjome, near Oslo, Norway
The Hotel Engø Gård enjoys an illustrious history and a privileged location on the island of Tjøme. Engø Gård has been welcoming guests for a hundred years from its beginning as a guest-house for selected members of Norwegian society to now a boutique 5-star hotel which has retained its traditional character and style. The hotel is situated in greenery with access to the southern end of the Oslofjord on the island of Tjøme, known as the ‘summer island’ by Norwegians and a favourite spot with Norwegians in the summer due to the range of sea- and water-sports as well as the typically warm and sunny climate. In addition to sea-bathing and water-sports, hiking is a popular pastime with tracks around the coast affording spectacular sea vistas all year round. Engø Gård has 47 rooms in different buildings including in the old hay loft; the rooms vary in size, but they are furnished cosily and with contemporary comforts. There are twenty petite standard rooms in Stallen, with rooms named after the small islets in the area or indigenous birds. Some superior rooms have a sitting area inside and a private area outside. The eight superior rooms in Årstidene have a balcony or terrace which catch the evening sun. Two rooms, each of 45 sqm, have a sitting area and a double bed downstairs and two single beds in an upstairs loft, making them ideal for families. The three rooms in Låven, where the hay loft used to be, have sea view and a balcony. Engø Gård has two restaurants: Pilredet is a fine-dining restaurant and open all year round, offering a seasonal 5-course menu at about NOK 1,045 per person or a gourmet 9-course tasting menu at about NOK 1,595 per person and Brasserie Nina, which is an a la carte restaurant offering light lunches and dinner in the summer months when it’s open from 13.00 to 19.45 every day. During the rest of the year it is open for lunch Monday to Saturday and for a dinner on Sundays. The gardens are a welcome spot to relax with a book or a drink or for the more active there is tennis, padel and boules. An appealing highlight of the hotel is the spa, located in a conservatory, with heated indoor pool, jacuzzi and sauna. Spa treatments are available but should be pre-booked. The hotel also has a sauna raft and can hire kayaks and bicycles. Wine-tasting and cookery lessons are also possible on request. Engø Gård is an authentic and luxurious base not far from Oslo but which provides a real taste of a Norway that is waiting to be discovered.

About Oslo and Oslofjord
Norway's capital city, Oslo, nestles at the end of the Oslofjord surrounded by hills and islands. Oslo blends skilfully tradition and modernity. The iconic Oslo Opera House on the waterfront sits a short distance from the Akershus fortress and the Old Town Hall dating from 1641 is a stroll away from the Akrobaten pedestrian bridge, a near-futuristic construction of steel and glass. Much of Oslo is within walking distance from the centre and you can explore happily on foot for much of your stay. You'll notice that cars are very much absent from the centre and that trams are a very easy way of reaching places on the outskirts. A fast train serves the airport and there are numerous ferries from the harbour in front of the town hall that take you to the islands in the fjord and to historic villages along the coast.
