Enjoy the chateaux-country of the Loire Valley and the coastal panoramas of Brittany!
Following the exciting addition of the Domaine de Locguénolé to our portfolio of French hotels, we are doubly excited to recommend our new, 8-night two-centre fly-drive holiday to France. We have combined a stay at this wonderful hotel near the south-coast of Brittany with a stay in the Loire Valley near the historic village of Blois.
Your adventure begins as you land at Nantes Airport where you pick up your rental car and set off on a picturesque three-hour drive to your first accommodation, nestled in the Loire Valley.
Spend three full days immersing yourself in the rich history, culture, and natural beauty of what used to be the favoured area to hunt for French royalty. A treasure trove of activities awaits, from visiting grand châteaux like Chambord and Cheverny to exploring the historic town of Blois, just 30 minutes away. Blois offers unique attractions such as a chocolate museum, beekeeping experiences, local cheesemakers, and its own medieval château.
A short drive along the Loire River takes you to Amboise, where you can marvel at its majestic château and delve into the world of Leonardo da Vinci at Le Clos Lucé, the residence where the Renaissance master spent his final years.
Wine enthusiasts could naturally delight in touring local vineyards and indulging in wine tastings, while garden lovers may enjoy the annual garden festival at Chaumont-sur-Loire.
Staying at La Borde en Sologne Chateau and Spa
La Borde en Sologne occupies a beautifully restored 17th-century château surrounded by 120 acres of landscaped gardens, forests, and a picturesque lake. Just 20 minutes from Chambord, Cheverny, and Blois, it blends history with contemporary luxury. The château offers 35 rooms, 5 suites, a spa, gym, and both adults-only and family-friendly pools. Guests can enjoy refined dining at Mémoire restaurant, which highlights local and seasonal produce.
Journey from the Loire Valley to Brittany
Embark on a scenic drive northwest through the heart of the Loire Valley, passing vineyards and châteaux along the way. Consider a stop in the historic city of Angers to stretch your legs and soak in some culture before continuing towards Nantes and into the serene landscapes of Brittany.
Unwind and explore the stunning Morbihan region of southern Brittany over the next three days. This area boasts a wealth of attractions, from the rugged beauty of the Côte Sauvage to the charming islands of Belle-Île and Île aux Moines.
A short drive takes you to the Quiberon Peninsula or the coastal town of Carnac, famed for its long sandy beaches and mysterious prehistoric standing stones. Just 15 minutes from your hotel lies the quaint town of Port-Louis, where you can visit the impressive Spanish-built citadel and a fascinating museum dedicated to the French East India Company.
With its captivating blend of history, culture, and natural beauty, this journey through the Loire Valley and Brittany promises to be a truly unforgettable French escape.
Staying at the Domaine de Locguénolé
Situated on a 25-hectare estate of parkland and woods along the Blavet estuary, Domaine de Locguénolé is a historic Relais & Châteaux property. Originally built in the early 1800s as a family residence, it now offers elegant accommodations in the château, manor-house, orangerie, and stables, as well as unique options like the Cuckoo Suite, a converted sailing ship, and the Villa Belem. Guests can enjoy a gourmet restaurant, a relaxed bistro, landscaped gardens, an outdoor pool, tennis courts, and a private pontoon for boat excursions.
On the final day, you drive back to Nantes which takes roughly two hours for your return flight to London.
