Brittany and Loire Valley two-centre fly-drive holiday with 8 nights in France
Arrive at Nantes airport and collect your hire-car. From here it’s about three hours to your first hotel in the Loire Valley region.
You have three full days to explore the region in-depth. There are abundant places of interest and things to do in this area. Very close by you can visit the splendid chateaux of Chambord and Cheverny. The historic town of Blois is about 30 minutes away and there you’ll fund a chocolate museum, beehives and cheesemakers as well as a medieval chateau. Just along the Loire is the town of Amboise, again home to an imposing chateau, but also le Clos Luce, which is a cultural space dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci who died here in 1519. There are vineyards to visit and wine-tastings that can be arranged. At Chaumont-sur-Loire a garden festival is held every year.
Today you drive north-west through the heart of the Loire Valley region, passing the chateaux and vineyards of the area. Perhaps plan to stop in Angers before driving towards Nantes and into Brittany. Your hotel is in its own grounds on the banks of the estuary of the River Blavet.
You have three full days to both relax and explore the area. This area of the Morbihan in southern Brittany is situated at the centre of many attractions. Key suggestions to visit are the Cote Sauvage, the islands of Belle-Isle and Ile aux Moines. The peninsula of the Quiberon is a short drive away as is the coastal resort of Carnac, renowned for its long sandy sea front. Just 15 minutes’ drive from the hotel is the small town of Port-Louis, home to a famous citadel, constructed in fact by the Spanish from 1590, and also to a museum about the French East India trading company.
Today, drive yourself back to Nantes, about two hours away, for your return flight to London.
