We have created a hand-made selection of suggested self-drive holidays and self-drive touring itineraries in France, giving you the opportunity to explore the country by car, travelling at your own pace whilst staying in luxurious and charming, personally-selected hotels, some of which we first started working with in 1989 when Expressions Holidays was established. All our hotel holidays to France are possible as self-drive holidays, although some destinations will necessitate overnight stops. How long you want to take and how complicated you want the itinerary to be, is up to you. We will tailor every holiday to suit your requirements.
Our hotels in France
All the luxury hotels that are featured by Expressions Holidays have been selected to provide high standards of comfort, service and cuisine. Our hotels are renowned for their charm and character, quality of surroundings and service whilst providing rest and relaxation amid an atmosphere of luxury and style.
Travel arrangements
We will tailor-make your self-drive holiday to suit your requirements, including a convenient ferry crossing that is most appropriate for you. We work with all cross-Chanel operators, allowing you the freedom of choice to determine the route and time. Ferries from Dover to Calais take around 90 minutes, whilst a journey in the Eurotunnel takes only 35 minutes. There are several other ferry routes which operate between England and France, ensuring that we will find a suitable solution no matter where you are travelling from or to. Most self-drive holidays in France will start along the north coast, although if your destination is in the south-west of the country it may be more convenient to travel to northern Spain instead. We work with many hotels in Brittany, Normandy and Pas de Calais which work well as overnight stops, allowing you to break your journey as you travel southwards. You can then journey across the country, passing sleepy villages, grand chateaux and fields of wheat and sunflowers as you travel to your next hotel. If you are travelling from Scotland or the north of England, it may be more convenient to cross from Hull to Zeebrugge. We can arrange that for you too.
Essential details
It is essential that you have personal holiday insurance, vehicle breakdown cover, a Green Card from your insurance company for taking your car abroad and an appropriate driving licence. All these items should comply with whatever rules are in place at the time of travel. The AA and the FCO should be consulted.
Excellent. So much easier coming to you than trying to book accommodation ourselves. Will certainly come to you again, especially for a self-drive holiday.Mr D, Sep 2023
