Luxury hotel holiday Jetwing Lagoon Negombo

On a slender strip of land that divides the Indian Ocean and Negombo Lagoon, the four-star Jetwing Lagoon is a luxury waterside villa not far from Negombo Town. The first hotel built by Geoffrey Bawa, its architecture is simple, yet manages a cool elegance, its low-lying buildings strung along the lagoon's shore. Orange roofed and white walled, the hotel buildings reside under the canopy of exotic palms trees, with a pavilion-style reception area exhibiting the best example of the open-air living spaces. The centrepiece of the hotel is a huge outdoor pool - the longest on the west coast - where guests can relax and enjoy a beverage from the pool bar. A member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group, the hotel holds 63 rooms and suites, each of which feature a style that combines local flavour and high-end luxury. Wooden furniture, red floor tiles and geometric tribal-style artwork fill these spacious private areas, most of which open up onto private terraces for lazy relaxation. Room categories include the Bawa rooms, deigned by the original architect himself, while Family rooms enjoy a ground floor location and spill onto the landscaped gardens. To suit the eco-friendly ethos of the hotel, solar power is the main source of energy throughout the property. There are two dining venues to choose from at Jetwing Lagoon: Geoffrey's and Blue Lagoon. The former pays homage to the hotel's famous architect and serves fine dining Italian, Japanese and traditional Sri Lankan fare under the timber eaves of an open-air dining pavilion. The latter offers lakeside views to accompany breakfasts, lunches and dinners that draw on east-meets-west flavours for fiery barbeques. The Main Bar is the destination for after dinner drinks.
