Luxury bespoke holidays and tours to the Galle Fort Hotel, Galle

This 1690s Dutch merchant's house was redesigned by a French Count in 1923 and, after spells as a gem factory and bakery, was turned into a luxurious boutique hotel in 2004. The buildings are arranged around a central courtyard with a swimming pool as its centrepiece, a perfect place for a lazy afternoon reading or for taking tea with a slice of freshly baked cake. Public areas house comfy sofas, Dutch antiques and ornate flower displays rising out of giant urns. Fine porcelain features prominently along a wall of the opulent lounge and in the aptly named 'Porcelain suite'. The bedrooms and suites contain top of the range furnishings and range from Garden rooms opening onto the courtyard to the palatial Grand Apartment of the Comte de Mauny, a favourite with honeymooners. The restaurant and courtyard terrace are popular with local professionals, attracted by the imaginative Asian fusion dishes and the peaceful atmosphere, away from the bustle of Galle's streets. The Galle Fort Hotel is a luxurious and intimate base for a holiday exploring historic Galle and the surrounding area.

The journey and how you get there

For a holiday to Galle Fort Hotel in Sri Lanka, our clients fly to Colombo, usually with Sri Lankan Airways on a direct flight from London Heathrow (or with Emirates from other UK airports via Dubai). This hotel is 2 hours and 25 minutes' drive from Colombo airport and is either a stay in its own right, in which case you will have a car transfer to the hotel and back, or it is stayed at as part of a tailor-made touring holiday with a driver-guide, in which case the hotel is usually approached from Tea and Hill Country to the north or from Yala National Park.

Minimum stays: 2 nights all year. 3 nights minimum stay applies on selected peak periods throughout the year.

Children: Although the Galle Fort Hotel does accept children over the age of 3 years, it should be pointed out that there are no facilities for children and the property is well endowed with fine furniture, ornaments and antiques.
