Out and about nearby
Through the hotel, guests can enjoy a tasting session of Crete's most valuable product, olive oil, at the Vassilakis Estate. Biking and sailing trips can also be organised through the hotel, particularly a ride on the Meraki Boat over to Spinalonga. The Venetian Fortress on Spinalonga has been beautifully preserved; narrow streets lined with ochre stone walls are unfailingly captivating. Some of the original window panes and doors remain, though trees have begun to grow inside what used to be the houses, giving the abandoned fortress an even more picturesque aspect. If you have a hire car, we would recommend visiting Knossos, the largest Bronze Age archaeological site in Crete and centre of Minoan civilisation. The colours of the palace have been faithfully restored, allowing visitors to witness its halls and painted walls in all their former glory. Inside is also one of the most important museums in Europe. The ancient city of Olous can be seen from the canal of Poros. Olous was once an important European city which traded with the East and held its own currency. The town of Aghios Nikolaos on Apatos Lake is the perfect place to visit for a taste of a bustling Cretan town, with authentic tavernas, small, traditional shops, and an intriguing myth. Apatos Lake is believed to be bottomless and a favourite bathing place of Athena and Artemis.

Luxury bespoke holidays to Domes of Elounda, Crete
The five star Domes of Elounda was voted Greece's Leading All-Suite Hotel at the Times Travel Awards in 2015. Overlooking the Sea of Crete as it filters between the islands of Kalydon and Spinalonga, the resort climbs the rocks behind the seafront. Terraces, pools, and a secluded beach area capture the stunning, inspiring views at all levels. This Autograph Collection hotel gets its mystical name from the gold and white domes that crown each of the suites. In some higher category rooms, these domes are hollowed out to add extra ceiling height, and have small arched windows that give the light in the rooms a more dynamic aspect. The rooms are so spacious and well-equipped that even the smallest room type, the Premium One Bedroom Suite, can sleep two adults and one child. A fresh, often nautical, colour scheme pervades, focusing on a theme palette of blue, gold, or lilac. Tiled floors keep the rooms cool throughout the day, as do large windows overlooking the rocky cliffs, the sea, and the islands opposite. Each room also has a large panoramic terrace, complete with shaded Jacuzzi or refreshing swimming pool. Marble and granite bathrooms with large cylindrical showers and Jacuzzis add a touch more luxury. All rooms are well-suited to families, couples, and groups alike, with three bedroom UltraLuxe Villas catering for up to 6 adults. Glittering with bronze and gold tiles on curved walls and ceilings, the Spa at the Domes of Elounda is a secluded and indulgent place to relax after a day in the sun. The services of a sauna, hammam, Jacuzzi, gym, Steam Bath, Laconium, Tapidarium, and Salon, are all accompanied by soothing music. The Domes of Elounda views dining in one of their four restaurants as an invitation into their home. Blend Italian Fusion Restaurant serves authentic Italian cuisine alongside a variety of specially-selected wines, creating a truly memorable dining experience. Topos 1910 Greek Seafood Restaurant is located right on the seafront under the branches of an olive grove. An a la carte menu here introduces guests to a wide range of fresh seafood, dished up in the soothing atmosphere of a terrace that looks across the sea to Spinalonga. The brand new Yaosai Asian Restaurant offers guests a menu of exotic delicacies. The main meeting point, however, is Tholos, a Greek & Multicultural Restaurant, in which breakfast is served in the mornings and a platter of varied flavours in the evenings. Guests can also choose to dine privately in the comfort of their own suite. On five weekends between the months of June and October, the Yasosai Restaurant is taken over by prestigious chefs from across the road, bringing you alternative, innovative flavour combinations; on top of this, various theme nights and cooking events are held throughout the year, which are always worth booking in advance. Four bars, all of which are pool or beach-side, are open for cocktails and snacks in the afternoon or evening. The Grand Domes Bar offers a relaxed lounge experience with sensational views, while the Breeze Bar allows guests to sip drinks with the sand between their toes. The Domes of Elounda in Crete is a bubble of paradise on a fairly undiscovered stretch of the Cretan coast, with idyllic beachfront, numerous tranquil pools, stunning dining options, and a luxury spa, all within the walls of a picturesque complex.

About Greece
An Expressions tailor-made holiday to Greece is ideal for any traveller looking to experience the diversity and splendour of this historic country. With 166 inhabited islands, a history spanning millennia of civilisation, distinctive and rustic cuisine often enjoyed al fresco with taverna-views out over the sea, as well as some of the most spectacular beaches in Europe, Greece offers a fantastic holiday for all tastes and budgets. The sum of an extraordinary diversity of parts, Greece has played host to countless empires, and the country today is fair littered with Roman ruins and Byzantine churches, Venetian fortresses and Frankish castles. Its music, food and even language are hugely influence by the Ottoman Empire’s 400-year rule. Scattered far and wide across the Aegean and Ionian Seas, the difficulty with Greece is in deciding which bit to visit. From the rugged hillsides of Crete to the long, wide beaches of Kefalonia, from the dramatic coastline of the Peloponnese to the ancient villages and tiny islands of the Dodecanese and Cyclades, Greece is so many different holidays rolled into one, endlessly multi-faceted country. Whether you just want to fly and flop or explore ancient ruins, whether you’re looking for water sports and nightlife, or wanting to hike between ancient villages, the famously friendly Greeks will be sure to have their welcome mat out for you.
Highlights of Greece
The ancient sites of Athens, with the Acropolis merely the most famous; Halkidiki, three beautiful peninsulas stretching out into the Northern Aegean, dominated by Mount Athos, with volcanoes, beaches and monasteries; Pelios peninsula, well-known to Athenians, little visited by tourists, criss-crossed by ancient mule tracks, with ancient villages, fabulous remote beaches; the Peloponnese, Greece at its ancient (Agamemnon’s Palace at Mycenae and Temple of Apollo at Corinth) and modern (west coast beaches) best; Kos, with beautiful powder-soft beaches sandwiched between verdant interior and turquoise sea; Santorini, perhaps the most iconic island of all, with famous blue-domed churches, white-washed villages and cobalt bays; Corfu’s wonderful old town; Hydra, fantastically scenic, with tiers of stone mansions cascading down towards a perfect horseshoe harbour; Patmos, where St John wrote the Book of Revelations, now a laid-back artistic hang-out; the extraordinarily atmospheric Delphi; Greece’s fascinating second city Thessaloniki; Meteora, one of Greece’s most spectacular sites, with clifftop monasteries overlooking the sea; take a rack-and-pinion train journey through the stunning Vouraikos Gorge to Kalavryta; lobster tavernas of the Fourni islands, a wonderful archipelago with gently shelving islands and hidden coves; the national marine park of Alonnisos, superb snorkelling; turtles on Zakynthos; Ikaria’s bizarre rock formations; spring and autumn migrations, when the cliffs of Lesvos swarm with birds; semi-tropical Samos and pine-scented Thasos with super beaches; tiny, hidden islands of Inousses, Fourni and Psara.
Travelling around Greece & the Greek islands
Greece is an easy place to travel around thanks to a comprehensive public transport system. Buses are the mainstay of land transport, with a network that reaches out to the smallest villages. Trains are a good alternative, where available. To most visitors, though, travelling in Greece means island-hopping on the multitude of ferries that crisscross the Adriatic and the Aegean. If you’re in a hurry, Greece also has an extensive domestic air network. While exasperating ferry schedules make island-hopping here a challenge, the individual character of each island more than makes up for the effort.
