The Grand Hotel et de Milan has stood in the centre of Milan since 1863 and has played host to many important figures since then, the most illustrious of these being the composer, Giuseppe Verdi. Throughout its history it has been one of the main cultural centres of the city, often acting as an annexe to the Scala, with renowned musicians using its rooms as rehearsal spaces.
