From the doors of the hotel you are immersed in the cultural history of the city. Across the road is the 16th century statue by Michele Sanmicheli, and then you can follow the historic Corsa Porta Nuova which leads to the city gates built by Sanmicheli. Famous sights in the city include the Verona Arena, the third largest Roman amphitheatre in Italy with a capacity of 30,000, the fictional house of Shakespeare’s Juliet, the ancient square of the Piazza delle Erbe, surrounded by mediaeval buildings including the Mazzanti house, with its painted artwork adorning its outside walls. Follow the course of the Adige River and you will find seven historic bridges including the Ponte Pietra, the oldest and which dates from 100 BC, and which leads to the Roman theatre. Also worth visiting in Venice is the Giardino Giusti, well-preserved gardens dating from the 16th century.
We particularly loved the Hotel del Sogno on Lake Garda for its character, beauty and amazing views. Great service too from the reception staff. Also they gave us great recommendations for restaurants.Mr and Mrs S, June 2023

Luxury bespoke hotel holidays to the Hotel Indigo Verona - Grand Hotel des Arts, Italy
The Hotel Indigo Verona – Grand Hotel des Arts occupies an elegant 19th century building, replete with classical columns, balustraded balconies and red awnings, that stands on the broad tree-lined boulevard that leads from the Porta Nuova, dating from the 16th century, into the centre of the city and the old town. From the hotel, you can reach the Arena di Verona on foot in about 9 minutes. This 4-star hotel has a total of 62 rooms and suites and has been renovated to provide a comfortable blend of modern amenities whilst respecting the 19th century building. The hotel displays elements of decoration and furnishings that have been inspired by the city’s art and architecture. Natural wooden floorboards work well with the splashes of colour provided by cushions, bedheads and paintings. A welcome spot is the interior garden of lawn and patio where you can sunbathe or doze after a day’s sightseeing. There is also the Arya Bar & Mixology, a lounge bar, perfect for an aperitif before venturing out into the old town for dinner. Rightly famous for its annual opera festival, Verona, however, also offers other cultural festivities: the Philharmonic Theatre, the main opera house in Verona, offers a programme of opera, ballet and symphonies throughout the year; the Fucina Culturale Machiavelli is a small theatre founded and renovated by a group of young musical entrepreneurs; the Roman Theatre on the banks of the River Adige still serves as a performance venue and its calendar of events includes ballet and jazz.
