We include Parma in our programme in order to offer you one of the smaller, lesser-known cities of Italy. Parma is of great interest for its gastronomy, art and music, with numerous excellent restaurants and interesting works of art and architecture too. The Palace Hotel Maria Luigia is in the city centre about five minutes' walk from the cathedral. It has about a hundred rooms, of various sizes and aspects but all comfortably furnished in a contemporary style. The Palace Hotel Maria Luigia has a spacious lounge/bar, breakfast room and a restaurant, Maxim's, which features many regional and seafood specialities. Parma is an ideal base for a few days, both to visit the city and to explore the nearby countryside where you can see Parma cheese and ham being made, play golf or visit Verdi's birthplace. If visiting Parma for its restaurants please bear in mind that many are closed on Sunday evenings.
