About Marlborough and Blenheim
An Expressions tailor-made holiday to Blenheim and Marlborough is a chance to explore one of New Zealand’s most cultural regions. This is New Zealand’s largest wine producing area with about 50 wineries in operation and is particularly known for its Sauvignon Blanc although other varieties including Pinot Noir and Cabernet Sauvignon are also produced here. The area is also home to numerous artists and craftspeople and the Millennium Art Gallery in Blenheim houses works by local painters and sculptors. This region also benefits from a sunny, warm and dry climate and is renowned for the startlingly beautiful scenery of the Marlborough Sounds, a landscape of water and islands, inlets and lush vegetation created by river valleys being drowned by the sea, accessible by boat, kayak and on foot and the extensive vineyards near Blenheim in the Wairau Valley, backed by the arid-looking Richmond mountains. Olive trees nestle on the hillsides above the vines.
Highlights of Marlborough and Blenheim
Kayaking in the Marlborough Sounds, Walk the Queen Charlotte Track or at least part of it, Lunch of local green lip mussels in Havelock, Wine tasting and winery visits in the famous Marlborough vineyards of the Wairau valley around Blenheim, known for its Sauvignon Blanc, Visit the Millennium Art Gallery in Blenheim, Travel along the Queen Charlotte scenic drive between Picton and Havelock.
