From the moment you arrive, Grenada's Calabash Luxury Boutique Hotel and Spa strikes you as a very special place. An extremely well-run hotel, Calabash offers a wide range of facilities, an exceptional kitchen and friendly service, all in a beautiful beachside location on L'Anse aux Epines (Prickly Bay) in about eight acres of gardens. Calabash's accommodation consists of 30 newly decorated suites in mainly two-storey houses, forming a semicircle facing the beach across a lawn dotted with palm trees and shrubs. The sandy beach at the Calabash Luxury Boutique Hotel and Spa is set in a natural bay which offers good bathing and water sports. On the beach, trees provide natural shade and The Beach Bar is close at hand with a range of cooling drinks and very tempting light lunches - The Calabash club sandwich with chicken, pineapple and nutmeg is highly recommended! The swimming pool, a short distance from the beach, is a good size and is surrounded by crisp white tiles that mirror the resorts buildings. Bougainvillaes provides dramatic bursts of colour. Dinner is served under trailing Thunbergia vine in Calabash's hotel restaurant. Local ingredients such as barracuda, dorado, kingfish, guava, nutmeg and dasheen are combined to provide dishes of the highest quality and imagination. The new beachside Bash Restaurant serves lunch as well as 'tapas bites' throughout the day. The Spa at Calabash is built on a ledge right beside the beach with three treatment rooms and a yoga pavilion. Natural products from Grenada are used in the treatments and a range of massage therapies, aromatherapy, reflexology and beauty treatments are offered. Your hotel suite at Calabash is spacious and very comfortable, having been thoughtfully redesigned and decorated with new furnishings and fabrics last year. Each room has a balcony or patio where your maid serves you A la Carte breakfast each morning, or it is possible to have a breakfast on the beach on a private table. The hotel's leisure features include a choice of watersports, tennis and a PADI dive centre. Grenada's Calabash Luxury Boutique Hotel and Spa is one of our favourite Caribbean hotels.

Calabash Luxury Boutique Hotel and Spa offers 30 suites with air conditioning, ceiling fans, mini bar, hair dryer, wall safe, showers, bathrobes, telephone, DVD player, flat screen TVs, digital iPod docking station, clock radio, iron and ironing board, tea and coffee making facilities. All rooms have king-size beds, which can be split and made up as two single beds, on request. Baby cribs and roll-away beds are available at no extra charge. TV and cable box and wireless network facilities. All suites have a bedroom, a lounge area and a terrace or balcony and brand new bathrooms.

The journey and how you get there
For a holiday to the Calabash Hotel in Grenada, Expressions Holidays includes flights from London to Grenada with British Airways or Virgin Atlantic. The flying time is about 10 hours. The Calabash Hotel is a 10-minute drive from the airport and Expressions Holidays will organise return private car transfers.

Children: Children over 12 years are welcome from 15 January to 15 March. All children are welcome for the rest of the year. Children under the age of 6 stay on a complimentary basis when sharing a room with their parents on a bed and breakfast basis. Children in this age group are not allowed in the bar or restaurant after 19.00. The concierge team can create itineraries for children to include water sports, land sports, cookery and arts and crafts.

About Grenada

Grenada is a southerly Windward island, composed of rainforest-covered mountains, fertile valleys of nutmeg, cocoa, mahogany and orange immortelle trees, sheltered bays and inlets with stretches of fine yellow-white sandy beaches. Highlights of Grenada
The carnival is in August. Food is excellent: specialities include lambi (conch), callaloo soup made of dasheen leaves, goat and seafood, nutmeg features on top of rum punches and in breakfast jelly. Rum and Carib beer are the local drinks. Perfumes and pot pourris made from the island`s spices as well as the spices themselves, straw, palm and wood craft ware all make excellent souvenirs. Recommended excursions include St George`s, Gouvaye, Concord Falls, Dougaldston Estate, Grand Etang forest centre, Grenville, Morne Fendue plantation house and La Sagesse Protected Seascape of beaches, mangrove, salt pond and coral reef.
Travel around Grenada
The hotels we feature are a short distance by taxi from the airport. However, a hire-car is very useful for visiting the island, getting into St George’s, exploring the coast for harbours and beaches. Cars can be booked through the hotels and delivered to your hotel.
