Luxury two-centre holiday to Nevis and Antigua
This ten-night two-centre holiday combines two complementary and yet contrasting islands of the Caribbean: Nevis and Antigua. Nevis is a charming gem of a Caribbean island, somewhere rich in history and local arts and crafts and somewhere small enough to give you a real sense of its character. Antigua is the bigger neighbour and a vibrant, lively island with a real sense of identity. Antigua also has many historic sites including Nelson’s Dockyard as well as outstanding sandy beaches. You have five nights on each island and we include an inter-island flight and transfers from the airport to each hotel and back.
Highlights
Trek in the rainforest trails on Nevis Peak • Snorkel • Visit the botanical gardens near Charlestown • Visit Nelson’s dockyard • Visit English Harbour • Visit St John’s for markets and museums

Luxury two-centre holiday to Nevis and Antigua
You fly from London to St Kitts with British Airways. At St Kitts you are escorted by car and boat for the journey from the airport to your hotel on Nevis.
You have four full days on the island of Nevis. Montpelier Plantation & Beach is a chic plantation house with a modern twist, offering a historical setting in the mountains as well as a private Caribbean beach. This former sugar plantation is surrounded by exuberant flowering shrubs and features the Great House. The walls of which are adorned with huge pieces of modern art containing a shady drawing room, library and outside dining terrace. Three restaurants serve an enticing combination of Nevisian and European cuisine, using local produce, lobster and fish. A choice of guest rooms are dotted along the hillside. The elegant Plantation Rooms offer a little more luxury than the Premier Rooms and have recently been updated. At the hotel are a good-sized swimming pool, sun terrace and bar where lunches are served. Montpelier has its own beach area on a beautiful stretch of Pinney's Beach, reached by complimentary shuttle, with six private shady cabanas, a new bar lounge and complimentary snorkels, kayaks and mountain bikes. Re-energise during the day with a swim, cycle or kayak and, as the sun sets, step back in time to a simpler way of life. The Spa at Montpelier embraces the tranquillity of the location where the energy from the mountain helps rejuvenate both mind and body. In recent years, a great deal of updating has made the hotel more contemporary without losing its traditional cosy feel. On Nevis seek out the Green Vervet Monkeys who live in the mango trees on the estate or watch and listen for the Green-throated Carib Hummingbirds. Hike or cycle along rainforest trails to the top of Nevis Peak. On Pinney’s beach ride horseback across white sand, or at Indian Castle Beach, watch the beachfront horse racing. Snorkel or scuba-dive over reefs, shipwrecks, and underwater caverns, marvelling at the colourful tropical fish and the intriguing landforms. Combine relaxation with outdoor activity at the Robert Trent Jones Jr. Four Seasons Golf Course, which follows the undulations of the hilly landscape, with the sea and volcano as your backdrop. Perhaps visit the botanical gardens near Charlestown, set very close to Figtree Church, in which Horatio Nelson married Fanny Nesbit, the former owner of the Nisbet Plantation. Ponds, fountains, and fruit terraces are hidden amidst dense tropical foliage, and authentic Thai cuisine is served in the gardens’ restaurant. On a Saturday morning, head into Charlestown for the lively Farmer’s Market, which provides an excellent insight into island life.
You will be transferred by car and boat to St Kitts airport for the Liat flight to Antigua. There is generally a flight from St Kitts to Antigua at about 15.00 hrs. The flight takes 30 minutes. When you reach Antigua, you’re transferred by private car to Blue Waters.
You have four full days on Antigua, staying at Blue Waters. This resort prides itself on the effortless blend of luxury and elegance, achieved through its combination of modern and historic architecture, light and airy rooms, and the pervading sense of privacy. Dotted around the 17-acre estate of tropical gardens, are hidden gems such as serene freshwater pools, an old sugar-mill, and secluded beach coves. Guests are free to use the complimentary water-sports facilities to explore the sea. Choose from snorkelling, windsurfing, and kayaking, or try all three. Motorised sports can also be arranged upon request, at a charge. After a thrilling morning on the water, relax in the hotel’s indulgent spa, which aims to establish a sense of relaxation for mind as well as body. The spa’s pool overlooks the sea, encasing you in a bubble only disrupted by the sea-salt breeze and birdsong. Many tours and excursions are available through the hotel, suiting the avid angler as well as those looking to see Antigua from the water. Choices range from sunset sails to lobster lunch cruises and sea-fishing trips. The rest of the island offers much in the way of attractive beaches and cultural sights, and we would recommend organising private travel to allow you to see the highlights. One unmissable port of call is Nelson’s Dockyard in the National Park of the same name. Forts dot the hilly landscape, including the eight-acre Fort George, whose battlements enclose over 30 cannons, as well as 18th and 19th century buildings and lookouts. This valuable insight into British and Caribbean maritime history is the perfect continuation from your earlier visit to Figtree Church. Be sure to spend time down by the harbour or take to the water to see the miraculous Pillars of Hercules. To pick up some traditional Caribbean souvenirs, take a trip to Heritage Quay and St John’s, Antigua’s capital, where there is a colourful fruit and vegetable market and boutique-style shops. The St John’s Museum will also be of interest to those interested in the geographical and human history of Antigua and Barbuda.
You have most of the day free before your transfer to Antigua airport for the return flight to London, arriving the next morning.

Luxury two-centre holiday to Nevis and Antigua
About Antigua
An Expressions tailor-made holiday to Antigua is an indulgent getaway in a paradise setting. Antigua, the largest of the Leeward islands, has a cosiness and charm that welcomes the first-time visitor to the Caribbean and yet has an ease and sophistication that makes it attractive for those returning for rest and relaxation. The island is home to a great range of luxury hotels and resorts including Carlisle Bay, a boutique hotel located on a beautiful sandy beach which offers a great range of activities; and Hermitage Bay, an intimate and charming hideaway which is ideal for relaxation. Antigua is a low-lying island of yellowish green rolling hills that are gentle on the eye, but it is the spectacular coastline of long sweeping white sand beaches, inlets, bays and coves that is undeniably glorious. The island is surrounded by a sea of turquoise green and deep dark blue protected by coral reefs and on the eastern Atlantic edge cliffs and boulders form excellent perches for pelicans. The cosiness of Antigua is enhanced by the cheerful villages with names such as Liberta, Tyrells and All Saints with their numerous churches and colourful gardens surrounding the gaily-coloured houses, many painted vibrant greens, blues, yellows and pinks.
Highlights of Antigua
Cricket is the national sport of Antigua. Wadadli is the local beer. There are an exceptional number of places of interest to visit including museums, quaysides, old plantations. Some examples are Parham Harbour and St Peter’s Church, Betty’s Hope old sugar plantation and Harmony Hall, restored Great House with a craft centre. Falmouth, English Harbour and Nelson’s Dockyard is one of the most picturesque and beautiful harbour areas in the Caribbean. A few of the outstanding beaches on the island include Dickenson Bay, Soldiers Bay, Hawksbill Beach, Galleon Beach and Darkwood Beach. Carnival is at the end of July. Fig Tree drive between Old Road and Liberta is through the rainforest.
Travel around Antigua
The roads are fine except for a few potholes. Car hire is easily arranged and highly recommended. Traffic on a Saturday can be quite heavy in St John’s but you can find parking places. Distances are not too great so it really is easy to get around. Signposting is lacking, and an ordnance survey map is more accurate than tourist maps provided locally.

Luxury two-centre holiday to Nevis and Antigua
About Nevis
An Expressions tailor-made holiday to Nevis is a chance to indulge in luxury, in stunning surroundings. Nevis was once known as ‘Queen of the Caribbees’ because of her graceful society and grand plantation houses. This sense of grace and elegance, coupled with a charm and cosiness is still evident in Nevis today, not just in the obvious Great Houses of the old plantations, many of which are now our hotels, but also in the friendliness of the people and in the way they have preserved proudly links with their past. Luxury hotels on Nevis include Nisbet Plantation a colonial style hotel with excellent quality accommodation and direct access to a beautiful beach. In the centre of the island is Mount Nevis, more often than not with its summit covered in cloud. All around Nevis are visible signs of the old plantations: sugar and cotton used to be the main crops but now ruined great houses and chimneys and boiling houses are being swallowed up by encroaching vegetation. As well as the calm water of the Caribbean that lap Pinney’s Beach and the west coast, Nevis has surf on the east coast Atlantic side. Nevis offers excellent standards of hotel accommodation, an ambience that easily relaxes you and numerous places of interest for sightseeing; perfect for a luxury holiday.
Highlights of Nevis
The local rum is CSR produced on St Kitts and drunk with Ting, the local grapefruit soft drink or neat with ice and water. Carnival on Nevis is called Culturama and it takes place at the end of July. Nevis is famous for its first day cover stamps usually depicting the island’s flora and fauna, sea life, history and carnival. In Charlestown there are several shops selling local crafts and a gallery selling the prints, oils and water colours of Kate Spencer that depict island life. Beachcomber bar and restaurant on Pinney’s Beach and Prinderellas further north.
Cultural highlights of Nevis
Walkers and historians discover plenty of material exploring the grounds of the old sugar estates. Nevis has numerous museums including the Museum of Nevis History, the Alexander Hamilton House, the Horatio Nelson Museum. Pinney’s Beach, over 3 miles of sand, is ideal for walking and several beach bars and restaurants provide welcome relief from the heat. The architecture of Charlestown is some of the best preserved in the Caribbean with its balconied and gingerbread houses.
Travel around Nevis
With the island being so small, it is very easy to get to see the whole of it, the furthest hotel still only being about 30 minutes’ drive from the airport. For the hotels not on a beach, there are usually shuttle buses to take guests to the beach. Taxis are easy to hire and can be arranged through the hotels.
