With only 9,000 inhabitants, Andros Island is one of the lesser-known islands, yet largest island in the Bahamas. Kamalame Cay lies about 25 minutes drive and ferry ride from the airport on Andros Island. The exclusive Kamalame Cay and Cove resort is a private island resort with over three miles of white sandy beaches and overlooking several square miles of bonefish flats. Nearby is the second largest barrier reef in the world. There are a dozen dive sites within 15 minutes of Kamalame Cay and Cove, giving guests fantastic opportunities to explore the reef wildlife of the Bahamas. The Kamalame Cay hotel has just 19 rooms and suites that are located along the eastern side of the Cay. They carry such names as Cocoplum, Mahogany and Calypso. Minibars are stocked with cheese and crackers, fruit and drinks. Ice and freshly baked cookies are delivered every afternoon. Just across the water from Kamalame Cay there is a four-bedroom private villa called Kamalame Cove, set in four acres of land with two private beaches and a swimming pool, as well as the use of all the facilities on Kamalame Cay. Like the Cay it is all-inclusive, although guests do have their own chef, house and grounds staff. The Great House on the Kamalame Cay is home to the restaurant, where meals are quite informal and guests are able to choose between dining family style or at private tables. Buffet or cooked-to-order breakfast is served from 6.30 am onwards to accommodate fishing guests. Lunches and teas at the Kamalame Cay and Cove resort are also served on the beach or by the pool, which is situated next to Tiki Bar. There are many activities for guests to enjoy, including tennis, golf and water sports. Snorkelling and fishing can also be arranged.
