Out and about nearby
As well as enjoying the range of water sports available in the local towns, and kitesurfing at the resort itself, perhaps look to travel further afield on a whale-watching boat trip. These trips can take you around to Soufriere and the Petit and Gros Pitons, or the Anse Cochon beach. Also near Soufriere is the Sulphur Springs Park, home to bubbling mud pools, a wide volcanic crater, and warm sulphur springs. At the Diamond Botanical Gardens, you can wander past tropical plants, observe the cascading water of the Diamond Waterfall, or relax in the mineral baths. A very valuable visit while in St Lucia is to a local plantation, many of which still grow coconuts, cocoa, or bananas. Closer to your resort, however, in Hewanorra, is the Vieux Fort, from which you can look across towards Saint Vincent.

Luxury bepoke holidays to Serenity at Coconut Bay, St Lucia
Serenity at Coconut Bay is an all-inclusive, adults-only, all-suite resort in St Lucia. As the name suggests, the emphasis here is on a relaxed, stress-free atmosphere. The suites themselves are designed as sanctuaries, with large open-plan living spaces both inside and out. Each has its own furnished patio with wet bar and double hammock, which leads to the plunge pool and waterfall. Creeping flowers shelter each private garden from one another, establishing a real sense of intimacy in each suite. Inside, each of the suites follows a fresh, bright design scheme. Colours inspired by the seafront location are injected into the bed covers and soft furnishings, while mahogany beams around the four-poster beds and exposed pebbles and stone in the en-suite bathrooms add a somewhat rustic, authentic Caribbean touch. In each there is a statement mahogany credenza topped with St Lucian granite. The exterior of each suite is panelled in white painted wood, which creates the look of a breezy beachfront cabin. Every suite also has the benefit of attentive butler service to cater to your every whim. At the heart of the resort, surrounded by white-roofed pavilions and cabanas, is the main Serenity swimming pool. On shallow shelves in the pool are ergonomically-curved loungers, perfect for enjoying the sun while keeping your feet and hands cool in the water. Under the cabanas, cocktails, canapés, and snacks are served. At the Greathouse Restaurant, housed within a very traditional St Lucian mansion, romantic dinners of international as well as local cuisine are paired with high quality wines, which is the perfect end to a day spent exploring St Lucia or relaxing on the beach just a minute away. The Oceanfront Spa completes the resort's offering of luxury facilities. Choose to enjoy a specialist treatment in your own private garden, in your suite, or in a spa cabana by the sea. Your butler can make the arrangements for you, for the treatments as well as transportation, and then you can sit back with a glass of champagne while experiencing an organic therapy that uses local St Lucian ingredients. Serenity at Cocunut Bay prides itself on its tranquil and intimate atmosphere that is perfect for couples looking to enjoy a romantic holiday.

About St Lucia
An Expressions tailor-made holiday to St Lucia is an opportunity to explore a lush, fertile island of volcanic peaks, rainforest and banana plantations which stands at the heart of the Windward Islands. Bitterly contested in bygone centuries by the British and French, St Lucia’s history is reflected today in the creole architecture and cuisine and the impossibly difficult to understand patois. The great range of luxury hotels and resorts on the island ensures that there is the perfect destination for every type of holiday. For example, Anse Chastanet is a charming hotel which offers a true flavour of the Caribbean whilst existing in harmony with its natural surroundings, whilst Sugar Beach offers luxurious accommodation with modern facilities in a stunning location. The character and aspect of the island of St Lucia between the north around Castries and the south around Soufrière is vastly different. In the north you have the bays, coves and sheltered harbours, white sandy beaches and tourist resorts whereas the south is famous for the volcanic, forest-covered Pitons, sulphur springs and rain forest. The north of St Lucia will appeal if you want a luxury Caribbean beach holiday with comfortable, contemporary accommodation and the possibility of venturing out for days, and the south is to be recommended for those who want the experience of life in a lush, tropical environment with the close proximity of the rainforest.
Highlights of St Lucia
Banana plantations. Creole architecture and gaily coloured houses in the villages. Jazz festival in May. Creole dishes of plantain, breadfruit, yam and christophene. Exuberant flowers, parrots and humming birds. Lush rainforest walks. Waterfalls, sulphur springs and botanical gardens. The poetry of Nobel prize winner Derek Walcott. Fishing towns of Anse la Raye, Canaries and Soufriere. Boat trips along the coast are also possible and afford breath-taking views of the mountains.
Travel around St Lucia
The west coast road from Castries to Soufrière has a good surface and width and just winds up and down the length of the coast. The scenery is dramatic and well worth experiencing by hire car. Signposting in Castries is almost non-existent so be armed with a detailed map but be prepared to get lost a little. South of Castries, Soufrière and Hewanorra airport are well signposted.
