Luxury bepoke holidays to Anse Chastanet, St Lucia
Set on a lush tropical estate of 600 acres on the coast with views of the famous Piton mountains in St Lucia, the Anse Chastanet resort enjoys a stunning setting on a sandy beach with a second beach nearby. Designed for people who desire seclusion and to be off the beaten track, Anse Chastanet has 49 rooms landscaped into the hillside and surrounded by tropical vegetation. Some of the newer and premium rooms have been designed by Nick Troubetzkoy, the hotel's architect and owner, to blend harmoniously into the natural environment to the extent that they have open walls and windows. Locally made hardwood furniture, clay tiles, cheerful St Lucian fabric and original paintings by local and well-known international artists complement the original and dramatic tone here at the Anse Chastanet hotel. The smaller and older rooms are enclosed with wooden or glass louvred windows. Rooms do not have radios, telephones or televisions. There are a hundred steps from the beach to Anse Chastanet's hillside rooms, so it is not recommended for disabled guests. The cheerful Treehouse Restaurant is perched on the hillside affording dramatic views of the ocean and mountains; enjoy these views during breakfast and dinner followed by a beverage at Piton Lounge & Bar. Down on Anse Chastanet's beach, Trou au Diable serves lunches that range from light meals to five-course fare. Come evening, there are also the beachside venues of Apsara and The Beach Grill. The cuisine at the Anse Chastanet hotel is a proud blend of Caribbean and creole based on fresh, local produce, under the direction of a chef with a Michelin-starred background. The bay is protected by a reef and is now designated a marine reserve; the Anse Chastanet resort is renowned for its scuba diving centre with qualified instruction. Its Kai Belte spa offers a wide range of treatments, from Ayurvedic to hot stone therapies, featuring specially created beauty products. A new yoga pavilion has recently been added at beach level. Its unique philosophy of luxurious detachment from the modern world and integration with the natural makes St Lucia's Anse Chastanet hotel a wonderfully relaxing place to stay.

Luxury bepoke holidays to Anse Chastanet, St Lucia
About St Lucia
An Expressions tailor-made holiday to St Lucia is an opportunity to explore a lush, fertile island of volcanic peaks, rainforest and banana plantations which stands at the heart of the Windward Islands. Bitterly contested in bygone centuries by the British and French, St Lucia’s history is reflected today in the creole architecture and cuisine and the impossibly difficult to understand patois. The great range of luxury hotels and resorts on the island ensures that there is the perfect destination for every type of holiday. For example, Anse Chastanet is a charming hotel which offers a true flavour of the Caribbean whilst existing in harmony with its natural surroundings, whilst Sugar Beach offers luxurious accommodation with modern facilities in a stunning location. The character and aspect of the island of St Lucia between the north around Castries and the south around Soufrière is vastly different. In the north you have the bays, coves and sheltered harbours, white sandy beaches and tourist resorts whereas the south is famous for the volcanic, forest-covered Pitons, sulphur springs and rain forest. The north of St Lucia will appeal if you want a luxury Caribbean beach holiday with comfortable, contemporary accommodation and the possibility of venturing out for days, and the south is to be recommended for those who want the experience of life in a lush, tropical environment with the close proximity of the rainforest.
Highlights of St Lucia
Banana plantations. Creole architecture and gaily coloured houses in the villages. Jazz festival in May. Creole dishes of plantain, breadfruit, yam and christophene. Exuberant flowers, parrots and humming birds. Lush rainforest walks. Waterfalls, sulphur springs and botanical gardens. The poetry of Nobel prize winner Derek Walcott. Fishing towns of Anse la Raye, Canaries and Soufriere. Boat trips along the coast are also possible and afford breath-taking views of the mountains.
Travel around St Lucia
The west coast road from Castries to Soufrière has a good surface and width and just winds up and down the length of the coast. The scenery is dramatic and well worth experiencing by hire car. Signposting in Castries is almost non-existent so be armed with a detailed map but be prepared to get lost a little. South of Castries, Soufrière and Hewanorra airport are well signposted.
