Ayers Rock Resort's premium hotel, Sails in the Desert is named after the white sails that majestically crown its buildings. The resort is located at the beginning of Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park and has been designed and furnished to provide luxury and comfort in the middle of the Red Centre. The décor throughout the hotel reflects Aboriginal culture and heritage, and each of the rooms showcases Anangu art. Modern amenities are included in every room, and a private balcony or veranda ensures that guests can revel in the outback situation in privacy. As part of the Ayers Rock Resort, which is composed of five hotels in total, guests at Sails in the Desert can enjoy an extensive range of facilities, including nine restaurants, five swimming pools, 2 tennis courts and a shuttle service that circulates the resort every twenty minutes. In order to really experience the resort's location, an excellent range of excursions and tours can be arranged, from breakfast on a sand dune whilst the sun rises over Uluru, to an Anangu tour by an Aboriginal guide or a sunset visit to the majestic Kata Tjuta. This is an ideal hotel for those wanting luxury and comprehensive resort facilities.

The journey and how you get there

For a holiday to the Sails in the Desert Hotel near Ayers Rock, Expressions Holidays includes flights from London to Australia with British Airways or Qantas and onward domestic flights with Qantas to Ayers Rock. All international airports in Australia are served by a wide variety of international airlines and we can include other airlines in your holiday. The chosen airline will depend upon any stopovers you might want to make en-route to Australia. Ayers Rock Airport can be reached from Sydney (3 hours and 30 minutes), Melbourne (3 hours) or Cairns (3 hours). Sails in the Desert Hotel is a 10-minute drive from the airport and Expressions Holidays includes car transfers to reach the hotel from the airport. Alternatively, the hotel is just a 4 hour and 30-minute drive from Alice Springs. A hire-car can be provided for those wisihing to explore the wider area or as part of a longer touring itinerary.

About Northern Territory

An Expressions tailor-made holiday to the Northern Territory of Australia allows travellers to experience just some of the diversity of this vast country. The Northern Territory comprises two different areas – the monsoonal Top End and the dry Red Centre. Much of the land is Aboriginal owned, which has allowed their ancient culture and traditions to flourish. The Top End is home to Darwin, a lively multi-cultural city, and the lush tropical Kakadu National Park, with excellent wildlife and significant rock-art sites. The Red Centre is most famous for Uluru (Ayers Rock), which rises spectacularly out of the flat desert, but there are many other sites of interest and beauty to be found, such as meteorite craters, beautiful waterfalls and sinister canyons.
