Ningaloo Reef is a fringing coral reef located off the west coast of Australia. At 260km in length, it is the largest of its kind in Australia, and as such the Indian Ocean waters are rich with incredible marine life. Here whale sharks gather in high concentrations, but the area is also frequented by dwarf minke whales, orcas, pygmy blue whales, Bryde's whales, Australian humpback dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, spinner dolphins and southern right whales. On land, Sal Salis is surrounded by Cape Range National Park. From rugged limestone ranges to breathtakingly deep canyons, the 50,081-hectare wilderness is a diverse landscape filled with an abundant variety of birds, emus, euros, red kangaroos and over 630 species of wild flowering plants. The unique morphology of this landscape is also worth the trip in its own right. Over 700 caves are catalogued in the ranges, as well as numerous gorges and desert plains.

Hidden in the dunes overlooking the pristine beach, Sal Salis brings a touch of eco-luxe style to the remote and beautiful wilderness. Designed to blend with the environment, Sal Salis' spacious wilderness tents sit on raised platforms and offer wonderful views of the natural surrounds and the ocean beyond. Wake to the sound of birds as you catch a glimpse of kangaroos grazing among the dunes, or the spectacle of breaching whales as you tuck into breakfast or enjoy a morning swim in Ningaloo's crystal-clear waters. The main lodge is the heart of the camp. It is raised above the sand and coastal scrub to offer views out onto the reef and Indian Ocean, and provides a wonderful place to gather for meals and relaxation. Here you will find a small reference library with a variety of board games, and a comfortable lounge area with a self-service bar. In the dining area, you will join other guests for a menu of delicious meals created by the talented, resident chef. After dinner, sit in the open-air bar and look up - the number of stars is astonishing, and this area is known as one of the best places in the world from which to view the Milky Way. The lodge guides will bring this experience to life by pointing out the many different constellations that fill the night sky. Most importantly, the luxury of Sal Salis does not take the form of 5-star facilities or the creature comforts of city centre hotels. You will not find mobile phone service or WIFI within the Cape Range National Park. Instead, guests will find opulence and riches in the extraordinary wilderness location of this once-in-a-lifetime glamping experience.

The journey and how you get there

Qantas offer daily flights to Exmouth Learmonth Airport direct from Perth. You will be met on arrival and transferred to Arkaba Station. Transfer time is approximately 90-minutes. Alternatively, guests exploring the coastline are welcome to drive the journey themselves from Exmouth. Drive-time from Perth is approximately 13-hours. Finally, guests can book a scenic flight from Exmouth Airport to Sal Salis. The glight will take in the rugged limestone gorges of Cape Range to South Mandu Mandu and then over Sal Salis to the waters of Ningaloo Reef. You will land at the historic Yardie Creek Station where you will be met and transferred to Sal Salis with a journey time of approximately 20-minutes. A luggage limit will apply.
