Luxury bespoke hotel holidays to Hotel Chais Monnet & Spa, Cognac
The Hotel Chais Monnet has been artfully created from the historic Monnet cognac cellars that date from 1838 and blended with the ultra-modern. Today, on this site, in the centre of the town of Cognac, just a few minutes’ walk from the castle, the church, the gardens, historic buildings, and the museums, is the Hotel Chais Monnet, a 5-star hotel with 92 bedrooms, junior suites and suites. This is a superb place to stop for a night or two as you tour through France or to spend a few days’ exploring the cognac houses, the nearby Charente vineyards and the coast. The original exterior of the wine cellars’ building is in the pale, white-blond stone and behind is the chateau-style estate house. Linking all together are glass and steel constructions that lead to the modern and comfortably furnished bedrooms. There are two dining experiences: at Les Foudres you’ll find the fine-dining restaurant in the unique setting of the historic Chais, surrounded by ancient cognac barrels. There are tasting menus as well as an A la Carte. At La Distillerie you’ll find a modern brasserie with a menu based on fresh, locally sourced produce. It’s open from 6.30 am until 10.30 pm daily and on Sundays serves a special brunch. Le 1838 is a bar located in the former cooperage which serves over 400 different cognacs from more than 40 producers. Every Thursday there is live music from local musicians. Champagnes and cocktails are served too. For a restful afternoon tea, head to the Angélique Café where a range of delicious cakes and pastries are served, created by the hotel’s own pastry chef. Choose from Parisian teas or locally blended coffee. A huge bonus at the Chais Monnet is the indoor-outdoor swimming pool, gym and spa treatments. The proximity of the town on foot, the range of excursion possibilities nearby, the facilities at the hotel and the choice of dining make the Hotel Chais Monnet a fascinating venue for a luxurious and explorative stay.

About Bordeaux Region
An Expressions tailor-made holiday to Bordeaux is a chance to explore a region renowned the world over for its wines and its awe-inspiring chateaux, whilst Cognac is less explored yet holds a countless store of treasures waiting to be appreciated. The Bordeaux region is ideal for short breaks and touring holidays with a range of sights to discover. Cognac country is a perfect destination for the discerning traveller as it is still relatively unknown yet is within very easy reach of more popular areas such as the coastal resorts between La Rochelle and Royan about 30 minutes` drive to the west, the Medoc and Saint Emilion vineyards about 45 minutes` drive to the south and the intriguing Marais Poitevin about an hour`s drive to the north. Moreover, the cuisine has a character of its own, utilising cognac, pineau and Marennes oysters. A holiday to the Bordeaux and Cognac regions is highly recommended. A fantastic way to discover the region is to incorporate it into a self-drive touring holiday, flying to Bordeaux and then exploring this area as well as the Basque Country and Carcassonne by hire-car. It is also accessible by train, such as in our suggested rail holiday travelling to the Loire Valley and Bordeaux which also allows you to explore by hire-car.
Highlights of Bordeaux
