Luxury bespoke holidays and tours to Le Vieux Logis, Dordogne
Le Vieux Logis is outstandingly pretty; a manor house dating back 400 years built in the regional style in a quaint, authentic Perigord village in a bend in the river Dordogne. Surrounded by lawns and beautiful French-style formal gardens with yew and box, Le Vieux Logis is a 4 star boutique Relais and Châteaux hotel of exceptional charm and character. There are cosy lounges with open fire places, comfortable sofas and armchairs, walls decorated with pretty prints, pictures and ornaments which create a homely atmosphere. The restaurant 'Le Vieux Logis' has a one Michelin star and is located in what was an ancient tobacco drying shed of stone and painted shed. In fine weather service takes place on the terrace outside in the shade of lime trees and facing the formal garden. The chef, Vincent Arnould, specialises in local products such as duck, walnut oil, ceps and truffles. For a less formal style of dining the Vieux Logis offers the Bistrot de la Place just fifty metres from the hotel and on a beautiful square. Here you can discover simple but tasty regional cuisine in a cosy setting, open from Wednesday to Sunday and everyday in July and August. The rooms at Le Vieux Logis vary in size, some are situated in the main manor house, others in delightfully refurbished houses across the driveway in the garden, just 80 metres from the main building; but all are furnished individually to the same exceptionally high standards, with antiques or rustic local furniture, ornaments and pictures, rich coloured fabrics that complement the natural material of the building; the stone and the timbers. All have private bath and wc, telephone, television and mini bar. The atmospheric restaurant is situated in what was a tobacco drying house and the focus is on regional specialities in season. There is also a cosy bar. Le Vieux Logis is the sort of place you could ensconce yourself in for days on end with a few good books, perhaps venturing out to visit a local market, for a walk along the river or to potter in the pretty villages of golden stone.

About Dordogne
The Dordogne region at the heart of Perigord abounds in clear, flowing rivers, craggy hillsides of golden rock, hill top villages and castles built of the local stone, and attractive houses with grey slate roofs and mini turrets, with vines trained along their walls. A holiday in the Dordogne is ideal for those seeking a combination of activity, sightseeing and relaxation. There are pre-historic grottoes to explore, market towns of mediaeval houses and cobbled streets such as Sarlat, numerous sporting activities such as riding and cycling and castles to visit. Plus, the gastronomy of the Dordogne is renowned for its truffles, foie gras, `magret de canard` and walnuts. The Dordogne region possesses much of the essential delights for a visitor to France. A self-drive touring holiday is an excellent way to travel to the Dordogne, perhaps discovering the chateaux and manor houses of northern France along the way. A quicker alternative is to travel to the region by train, collecting a hire-car on arrival which allows you to explore at your own pace.
