About 5 minutes' walk from the seafront in a quiet residential area is the charming Hotel Parc Victoria, surrounded by a beautiful park and gardens. Built in the 1880s the villa has one of the most remarkable authentic interiors ever seen in a hotel. Almost entirely in art deco style, the Hotel Parc Victoria is full of antiques and has retained the feel of an elegant private house. There are just 20 rooms and suites, all with private bathroom and air conditioning. There is a charming lounge and breakfast room in the main villa and a very pretty garden dining room in a separate building near the swimming pool. The dining room serves a menu of the day from about 38€ in the evening as well as lunch time lighter meals, ideal if you're spending the day by the pool. Almost as outstanding a feature as the villa itself is the wonderful garden. In the English style, the garden is the piece de resistance of the Hotel Parc Victoria, bursting with trees, shrubs and flowers, it is cared for with as much individual love and attention as the villa itself. The Hotel Parc Victoria is a member of Relais and Chateaux. Early booking recommended.

The journey and how you get there
For a holiday to Hotel Parc Victoria, our clients fly to Bordeaux and then usually have the use of a hire-car for the duration of the holiday, or they arrive in their own car on a self-drive holiday, often as part of a multi-centre touring holiday (we would include a Eurotunnel crossing or a ferry crossing, depending on the itinerary), or they arrive by train, having taken the Eurostar London to Paris or Lille, and then the TGV to St Jean de Luz. From St Jean de Luz, it is a short taxi ride to the hotel, or, if you are visiting more than one hotel or want to explore the region, we recommend having a hire-car. We will arrange this for you.

About French Basque Country
An Expressions tailor-made holiday to the French Basque Country is a chance to explore this rural and picturesque region of France. One of the French Basque Country's great attractions is the close proximity of sea and country. The coastline is dramatic, with its wide sweeps of sandy beaches, cliffs and fishing harbours, beautiful sunsets over the sea and the Atlantic surf breaking on rocky outcrops; yet just a few minutes' drive inland are green, rolling hills, streams and rivers and flower filled pastures. The Basque identity of this region is apparent; the place names, the local accents, the Basque colours of the red and green timbered houses of villages where pelota is played regularly and in locally woven linens. Pimentos hanging from houses are a common sight as are locals in traditional costume for festivals and feast days. We loved the Basque Country from the moment we first visited it. The luxury hotels in the Basque Country which we recommend are located in and around St Jean de Luz, an old fishing port with wide sandy beaches. An excellent way to explore the Basque country is by car, perhaps also visiting other parts of southern France including Carcassonne and Bordeaux or venturing into Spain for a touring holiday including Northern Spain and French Catalonia.
