Luxury bespoke holidays and tours to Chateau des Vigiers, Monestier
Set amidst its own vineyards on the prestigious Route des Vins between Bordeaux and Bergerac, the Château des Vigiers offers an idyllic pastoral getaway in the delightful and unspoilt Périgord countryside. Built in 1597, on the site of an ancient fortified castle - some parts of the château are said to date back to the 12th-century - Vigiers was nicknamed 'Petit Versailles' for its architectural similarities to the prestigious Château de Versailles, particularly its fountains and use of natural springs. A member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group, this grand property has been faithfully restored to its original 16th-century glory and today offers 65 rooms and suites situated over three buildings on the estate. The main house, Le Château, boasts an elegant French country-house style and a warm and romantic atmosphere. Here, you'll find the hotel's reception rooms, including a billiards room, Le Club bar and the gourmet Les Fresques restaurant, where an elaborate seasonal menu is served, using the freshest local produce and created in kitchens designed by Michel Roux. Dinner is served al fresco on the terrace in fine weather and the extensive wine cellar offers a wide selection of vintages for every taste and budget. In addition to the gastronomic restaurant, the hotel also has the Bistrot des Vigiers, situated in the old wine-making building and boasting a vast vaulted ceiling and open fire, with dining under the ancient walnut tree amidst glorious lake, parkland and château views in summer. Half board can be booked on request in both restaurants. The 25 rooms located at the main château are warmly and comfortably appointed, boasting period furniture and views over the golf course or park. Classic rooms have a more modern style whilst deluxe rooms feature a private terrace and decoration more in-keeping with the character of the hotel. The Dépendences meanwhile are situated just a short distance from the main building and were built in traditional, typical Périgordian style, using locally-sourced limestone, oak beams and terracotta tiles. The Dépendence suites have a cottage feel to them and can be joined to additional rooms, which feature a large living area and kitchen facilities to create the perfect family accommodation. The Relais offers a further 40 bedrooms and is much more modern in architectural style, its inspiration being the local tobacco barns. Located next to the first tee and just a few yards from the pro shop and brasserie, these rooms are perfect for golf aficionados. Designed by Donald Steel, the 27-hole golf course is a challenging yet delightful course to play and there are additional practise greens, bunkers, a driving range and six-hole academy course. The hotel also boasts the Maria Galland Wellness and Beauty Spa, where the extensive leisure facilities include a sauna, Hammam, fitness centre and outdoor heated pool. Set in a beautiful location Château de Vigiers combines a range of accommodation with excellent facilites.

About Dordogne
The Dordogne region at the heart of Perigord abounds in clear, flowing rivers, craggy hillsides of golden rock, hill top villages and castles built of the local stone, and attractive houses with grey slate roofs and mini turrets, with vines trained along their walls. A holiday in the Dordogne is ideal for those seeking a combination of activity, sightseeing and relaxation. There are pre-historic grottoes to explore, market towns of mediaeval houses and cobbled streets such as Sarlat, numerous sporting activities such as riding and cycling and castles to visit. Plus, the gastronomy of the Dordogne is renowned for its truffles, foie gras, `magret de canard` and walnuts. The Dordogne region possesses much of the essential delights for a visitor to France. A self-drive touring holiday is an excellent way to travel to the Dordogne, perhaps discovering the chateaux and manor houses of northern France along the way. A quicker alternative is to travel to the region by train, collecting a hire-car on arrival which allows you to explore at your own pace.
