Luxury bespoke holidays and tours to La Maison d'Uzes, Uzes
La Maison d'Uzès Hotel is a five-star luxury Relais & Châteaux housed in a former 17th century mansion at the heart of historic Uzès. From the cobblestones and narrow alleyways of this walled town, the hotel's noble façade betrays a grand heritage as the former home to an aristocratic family. The building has undergone many reincarnations before opening in 2013 as a hotel after a lengthy four-year spell of renovations. Where the honey-coloured stone exterior retains the ambiance of a bygone era, to step inside is to step into a whole new world. The interiors of La Maison d'Uzès Hotel are fresh and delightful, with white walls providing a blank canvas for bold splashes of colour. You can see this particularly well in the restaurant, La Table de la Maison d'Uzès, where the simple whites are uplifted with cheerful blues and purples. The effect is a mix of contemporary installations and original features. The dining experience here is an innovative interpretation of traditional French cuisine, as crafted by the chef depending on what is fresh and ripe on the local market stalls. Thus, seasonal vegetables, herbs and sun-ripened fruits are the staples of the menu, as complemented by regional wines. The 10 boutique guestrooms and suites are accessed off an exquisitely crafted stone staircase that winds its way around the centre of the building. Each room is thoughtfully designed and beautiful views over the Old Town's ancient rooftops add a touch of romance. After a day wandering the alleyways, the refined Le Spa by [comfort zone] is the destination for relaxation, located in the ambient Roman vaults.

The journey and how you get there
For a holiday to La Maison d'Uzes, our clients fly to Toulouse and then usually have the use of a hire-car for the duration of the holiday, or they arrive in their own car on a self-drive holiday, often as part of a multi-centre touring holiday (we would include a Eurotunnel crossing or a ferry crossing, depending on the itinerary), or they arrive by train, having taken the Eurostar London to Paris or Lille, and then the TGV to Toulouse, Carcassonne or Perpignan. From the railway station, if you are visiting more than one hotel or want to explore the region, we recommend having a hire-car. We will arrange this for you.

About Languedoc-Roussillon
An Expressions tailor-made holiday to Languedoc-Roussillon is a chance to encounter this most southerly region of French Catalonia, nestling on the Spanish border. The region is one that continues to delight and charm, offering plenty to discover during your holiday. The coast of Languedoc-Roussillon has long flat sandy beaches with a full range of water sports and golf at St Cyprien. Meanwhile the hinterland is surprisingly green, composed of gently sloping vineyards, Cotes de Roussillon, Banyuls and Rivesaltes and a whole host of fruit trees including peaches, cherries, plums and oranges. Further inland in Languedoc-Roussillon the Pyrenees rise, remarkably green and covered with trees and shrubs. To the north is the mediaeval town of Carcassonne, which rises like a mirage between vineyards and hills. Languedoc Roussillon also offers the fascinating land of the Cathars. With so much to see in Languedoc-Roussillon, a self-drive touring holiday is an excellent choice, either driving all the way from the UK or flying to the south of France before collecting a hire car. Visit other regions including Tarn and Provence to the north or Bordeaux and the Basque country to the west. Discover the Catalonian and Basque cultures by travelling along the Spanish border, or explore the valleys, fortresses and mountains of southwestern France. A rail holiday offers the chance to view the beautiful French countryside during the journey south, travelling by train to Carcassonne before exploring Languedoc-Roussillon by car, or stopping off in Beaujolais en route to the region.
Highlights of Languedoc-Roussillon
Sample the earliest cherries in France and other seasonal fruit. Take a visit to see the local ceramics and paintings, travel on the narrow-gauge railway from Villefranche de Conflent to Font Romeu. There are Folklore and music festivals in August. Gastronomy Sample anchovies, macaroons, Rousquilles aniseed biscuits. Local wines include Banyuls and Rivesaltes wines and Cotes de Roussillon wine.
