Luxury bespoke hotel holidays to Chateau la Cheneviere, Normandy
Chateau la Cheneviere is an elegant and charming 5-star chateau-hotel standing amid 12 hectares of English-style parkland in countryside between Bayeux and the Normandy coast. The chateau with its grey slate roof, blond stone and louvred shutters offers a subtle style of antique furniture and contemporary fabrics. There are two restaurants at La Cheneviere, ‘Le Botaniste’ where the inventive and seasonal cuisine of Chef Didier Robin creates a fine dining experience with a local, Normandy flavour, and which is open from Tuesday to Saturday in the evenings, and Le Petit Jardin which is the bistro-style, more informal restaurant situated in the old conservatory by the the pool, and which is open from Thursday to Monday for lunch and dinner. The cosy Zanzibar bar is a fitting venue for an aperitif or a digestif, enjoyed surrounded by the eclectic collection of the owner’s travel souvenirs. Bedrooms and suites, 29 in total, are located in the main chateau and two additional buildings in the grounds. All rooms are refined, discreet and elegant with a warmth and cosiness that complements the style of the building and its country location. Breakfast is served in the restaurant as a buffet and with eggs served to order, along with bread and pastries from the famous Fournil de Saint Loup and honey made by the resident hives. In the green space that surrounds the chateau you will find lawns, shady areas with exotic trees, rose beds and a walled garden with the swimming pool, in operation from mid-May until end of September. There is also a children’s pool. Every year in May, the Cheneviere holds a flower show when France’s best nursery gardeners are invited. The permaculture vegetable garden of the chateau provides fresh herbs, fruit and vegetables. Bicycles are provided free of charge to guests at the hotel and there are ample routes you can take around the chateau. La Cheneviere is ideally suited to a short, luxurious break or a stay as part of a longer, touring holiday of France.

About Normandy
An Expressions tailor-made holiday to Normandy holds an astonishing familiarity for the British visitor, due to its lush green pastures and close historical ties. Normandy is an attractive land of white chalk cliffs, long sandy beaches, fishing ports and harbours, rich green pastures and apple orchards, half-timbered and thatched houses and barns, lively market towns, sophisticated sea side resorts such as Deauville and Cabourg and sleepy villages. Famous for its dairy produce, cider and calvados, the cuisine of Normandy is hearty reflecting both its rich pastures and its proximity to the sea. Historical ties provide links from William the Conqeror to 1944. Normandy is a gentle and friendly land, small and pretty where the comforting aroma of apple wood fires lingers in the air and where the salt of the sea is in the breeze. With its nearby location, beautiful scenery, countless activities and charming hotels, Normandy is well-suited to both short breaks and longer holidays. A self-drive touring holiday is an excellent way to explore Normandy, and the region is a perfect place to stay en route further south, perhaps to the Dordogne region or the Loire Valley.
Highlights of Normandy
Calvados, cider and camembert, horse-races in Deauville in August, markets every day of the week throughout the region, the Route du Cidre, and the summer art exhibitions.
